CYRK: Augmented
Reality Poster (AR)

Introduction:
Inspired by the childish whimsy of the circus, I created my own version of a CYRK poster featuring an illustration of a friendly, fun-loving clown. For inspiration, I looked to contemporary, Polish circus posters to inform the quirky and playful aesthetics that I sought to emulate through the use of hand-lettering, humor, and vibrant color application.
With the playful look of the primary illustration established, I was determined to integrate the type using the same approach. With this in mind, I experimented with type as image in the clown’s balloon which is blown up and “twisted” to spell out, “CYRK”.
Augmented Reality (AR) & Process:
After the initial poster design process was complete, I was tasked to create an accompanying augmented reality (AR) animation that would bring my design to life. Using the app, Artivive, a still image of my design links directly to a playable version of its accompanying animation by simply viewing the poster on-screen through an in-app camera feature.
The animation begins with a still image of the poster and transitions into an animated sequence in which the clown blows up the “CYRK” balloon until it pops. After the balloon pops, the clown begins blowing up another balloon and twists it to reform the phrase “CYRK”. The clown continues to pop the balloon and blow it up again in a perfect visual and auditory loop.
