Pizza Face Skincare
branding, packaging, UX/UI

Introduction:
In an age of social media and digital retouching, skin imperfections, such as pimples, have become a prominent insecurity among people of all ages. For my identity project, I wanted to challenge this unrealistic beauty standard by creating a brand that celebrates the beauty of imperfection through its playful take on the marketing of skincare and acne products.
Logo & Character Design:
While other brands use models with air-brushed, flawless skin as the face of their products, I wanted Pizza Face Skincare to embrace the appearance of blemishes and to work with the visibility of acne to its advantage.
Using basic design elements commonly seen on pizza boxes coupled with a retro illustration style as the inspiration behind my brand image, I chose to base my logo on an illustration of a young chef with acne, holding up a tray of skincare products. Pizza Face’s logo celebrates the visibility of acne-prone skin while simultaneously emphasizing the humorous relationship between the brand and pizza-related imagery.
Early Sketches & Exploration:
Packaging & Product Design:
I decided to take the pizza-inspired brand image of Pizza Face Skincare even further by choosing to design the subscription box as an actual pizza box, complete with the traditional checkerboard pattern on the exterior. The product design of Pizza Face Skincare was loosely stylized to mimic the colors and offset screen-print style of the logo while the products themselves were based off of playful pizza-themed puns, namely using common ingredients as inspiration.
UX/UI Design & Desktop Flow:
As a final step to creating the Pizza Face brand identity, I created a functional user interface for desktop. Prototyped in Adobe XD, Pizza Face Skincare’s website has an array of features including working “Add to Cart” buttons, hover states, and navigation links.
